#MotivationWednesday- “Pay It No Mind.”

Marsha P. Johnson

You know her, right?

I’m sure you know her..right?

You HAVE to know her!

Do you really not know her?

History has tried to forget her name, but they can never forget the way she made people feel. She is the true mother of the queer liberation movement. There would be no Stonewall Riots without her, but society has tried to whitewash her life by washing her mere existence off of the face of the planet.

Luckily, some historians and activist still continue to pay tribute to her life and her role in the riots even when others would rather forget her. It is through their tribute, that many young queer people such as myself can continue to pay tribute to her life and honor the work that she did.

Mother Marsha was tragically killed in 1992 after her body had been found floating in the Hudson River. To this day, there are still no concrete answers as to who killed her and under what circumstances.

Though she is gone, her legacy continues to live on. It lives on in each and every one of us as a reminder to not just exist, but to live and to also do it as fashionable as Marsha would have done.

If you’re looking for information on the life and unfortunate death of Marsha, then you should most certainly watch this film. It provided me with a lot of great insight.
